Most door problems start on install day
A door can look perfect the day it goes in and start binding a month later. The cause is almost always something set wrong at the beginning: a track a hair out of plumb, springs sized for a different door weight, or a header bracket fastened into drywall instead of framing. None of it shows in the finished door, which is why the work is in the details.
Our approach to installation is thorough and detail-oriented, so that we get it done right the first time. That means checking the opening before a single section goes up, and setting every fastener where it will hold, not just where it is convenient to reach.
From the old door to the last test, in order
The old door comes down first, with its spring tension let down safely before anything is unbolted. Then the opening and jambs are checked for square and plumb, and any damaged trim or framing is dealt with before it has to carry a new door. Skipping this step is how a fresh door inherits an old problem.
Sections are stacked up the vertical track, and the horizontal track is hung level and braced to solid ceiling framing. Springs are wound to the weight of the new door rather than a generic setting. Rollers, hinges and cables go on in sequence, and every bolt is snugged once the track alignment is confirmed.
Before any opener goes on, the door is balanced by hand. Lift it to mid-travel and let go: a balanced door stays where it is. Only then do the opener, the photo-eyes and the travel limits go in, and the auto-reverse gets tested against an obstruction before we pack up.
Starting with a free estimate
Every installation begins with a free estimate, for homes and for commercial doors alike. Call (309) 357-3907 or send a request, and a Tri-County Door Doctor representative will contact you the same business day. We are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, and weekends by appointment.
We install across Peoria, East Peoria, Dunlap, Pekin, Washington, Metamora and Germantown Hills, using brands such as Hormann and Linear. Chip Wilmot founded the business in 2015 and it is still family-owned, so the person you talk to at the start is part of the shop that does the work. Warranties are available.
